about our volunteer program
Volunteering at LaWayra is one of the most rewarding and life-changing experiences you can have. Dedicating yourself to service in a healing space transforms all areas of your life as you help create a safe space for our guests, facilitate experiences and activities, reconnect with manual work, and be part of sacred, traditional ayahuasca ceremonies as a team member.
Expect your own growth to accelerate. Three months at LaWayra can feel more transformative than three years in regular life. You’ll support guests through their deep healing processes, strengthen your communication and conflict resolution skills, and learn more about your own boundaries and energy management.
Immersing yourself in service is humbling, profound, and deeply rewarding. It can shift your life toward more clarity, gratitude, and intentional living.
Being a volunteer at a healing retreat is important and delicate work. Guests trust us to provide a safe space where they can face their traumas and feel supported through challenging processes. To maintain this, our volunteers go through a clear selection and preparation process:
- Online application
- Two rounds of interviews (ceremony volunteers) or one to two interviews (business volunteers)
- Extensive online training with video modules, summaries, and checklists
- Online exam to assess comprehension and readiness
We know most people don’t arrive with direct experience in ayahuasca retreat facilitation. That’s why we provide thorough training, both online and in-person, with step-by-step onboarding and hands-on guidance.
Your first month is a mutual trial period. It allows you to experience the role and the community while giving us time to assess team fit. After the first month, you’ll gradually take on more responsibility and independence, always with team support.
This program is for you if you are:
- Drawn to community life, selfless service, and holding sacred space
- Able to handle physically, emotionally, and socially demanding environments
- Grounded in emotional regulation and self-awareness, and ready to give back
- In a life transition and looking for meaningful ways to serve
This program is NOT you for if you are:
- In a mental health or emotional crisis, or burned out and needing recovery
- Primarily looking for your own healing or a therapeutic retreat
- Resistant to feedback, teamwork, long working hours, or physical labor
If you’re in crisis, struggling with addiction, or just beginning your healing journey, please seek the support you need first. LaWayra is not a rehab, a therapy center, or a platform for self-promotion. This program exists for service to the collective.
Reality Check
Most volunteers describe their three months here as deeply rewarding, transformative, and a catalyst for their own growth. Volunteering at LaWayra is a privilege: to support others in their healing, to live in this environment and community, and to grow through a unique experience.
This work can be physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding. We don’t expect perfection. We do expect honesty, humility, and willingness to serve.
We receive many applications. Before you apply, be mindful of the process and the commitment it takes to become part of our team. This structure makes sure you feel prepared and ensures our guests are held in the safest, most respectful way possible.
